This week I read an interesting article in a local newspaper about human skin. It’s no surprise that alcohol, sun and a lot of beauty products damage our skin. However, skin care is important but how do I know which products don’t damage my skin? I recently discovered YUN Probiotherapy, this brand has a great story that I like to tell you all about in today’s post. I will also review one of their products in one of my next posts, stay tuned.
The story behind YUN
YUN probiotherapy is the result of more than 10 years of research, the team behind YUN, a biotechnology firm, works closely together with experts from the University of Antwerp. This collaboration has led to many breakthroughs. They recently started a crowdfunding campaign which you can find over here.
Antibiotics : our little bad habit
YUN strongly believes in effective bacteria to combat bad bacteria. Our skin is covered by a layer of good bacteria, our microbiome. When your microbiome is out of balance, this can result into different health issues. Nowadays people are using too much antibiotics to prevent and treat bacterial infections. The biggest problem we face is antibiotic resistance. New mechanisms emerge, the responsible bacterium is resistant to antibiotics. You could say that it’s one of our bad habits, it’s true that we are using too much antibiotics, even for health issues that can be solved without the use of those antibiotics.
At YUN they face this problem, they strongly believe in the use of friendly bacteria to combat the bad ones. This all sounds extremely easy but how did they do this? They found 3 ground-breaking innovations. First of all they did find the most effective bacteria to fight the bad bacteria. Second they created a system to keep the bacteria alive in skin creams, this is all really technical: the bacteria are kept in sleep-like state in microcapsules. When applying the cream to your skin, these microcapsules will pop. And last but not least they came up with creams that contain preservatives and emulsifiers that don’t harm our skin. I do think that this last one is extremely important.
YUN offers different kinds of therapies for all types of concerns: teen or adult acne, sensitive skin, vaginal infections and athlete’s foot. It takes up to 4 weeks to see effective results. I will write a complete review on the therapy for sensitive skin. I’m very sensitive to certain products, I do have to pay attention to the creams I apply to my skin. This therapy includes a facecream, body lotion and body wash. The product launch will be at the end of March and I’m already looking forward to it.
A message to you all: love your bacteria!
