As a young girl I’ve always had an interest in fashion and beauty. Entrepreneurship has always been in my family and, sooner or later, I knew I’d be starting something of my own. The plan: running a webshop, that’s what I said to myself. And that’s what I’m doing today, so the plan the 12 year old me made is still on course.
I’ve always had a drive to discover and learn new things of entrepreneurship, online marketing and photography. In my first year of highschool my parents got me a professional camera because of my grades. My three sisters, pets and nature were photographed often after this. Thousands of photos later, I’m doing it professionally.
Freelance marketeer in Belgium and the Netherlands
At the age of 21 I started my own business, Little Louvain. I just knew this is what I had to do after several horrible job interview. There was a lot of uncertainty going into it, but I still went for it. Everyone around me wasn’t convinced at first. They were thinking “Elien, what are you getting into? Shouldn’t you be working for a boss?”.
But I followed my dreams. And now I have clients in Belgium and the Netherlands. What I offer? Copywriting, social media management, photography and online marketing. I take care of all the online marketing from A to Z.
Add some personality to your brand
So why am I writing this article? Because your potential clients love to know the face behind the brand. Unfortunately a lot of companies only care about the commercial angle and turn their social media channels into pure sale points. Your clients aren’t after sales pitches, you want to create a community of loyal fans on your social media. Create interaction and build a relationship.
Personal branding is the key to success, maybe you’ve read my previous blog where I told you all about the importance of having a clear strategy and identity. I invest a lot of time into personal branding, in order to keep the balance between personal and commercial posts.
The ‘Why?’ behind your business
Are you an entrepreneur and have you got a strong idea? Well before you start, you should ask yourself what the ‘why’ is behind your business? Why should people pick you? And who is your client? Describe your services as clearly as possible so all of your potential clients know what you do when they read about you. That way you can distance yourself from all of the others.
